Kevlin Corporation, a division of Cobham Defense Electronic Systems, designs, manufactures and services complex electro-mechanical microwave components and subsystems. We specialize in microwave and electro-mechanical rotating devices. These include RF rotary joints, gear-driven pedestals and RF rotating subsystems used in military and air traffic control radars and telecommunications systems.
Kevlin has established itself as the industry's rotary coupler technological leader and has provided rotary couplers and other components for numerous ground, shipboard, submarine, aircraft, commercial, and space applications. We have expanded our refurbishment capabilities to include all manufacturer.
Kevlin Corporation has a long history of commitment to the design and manufacture of microwave rotary joints, transmission lines and pedestal assemblies for use in radar and communication systems. This commitment to the marketplace is evident in the widespread application and diversity of our rotary joints and our willingness to team with radar manufacturers to reduce costs and improve lead times. An intense level of commitment to quality products and good customer relationships is supported at all levels of the company from maintenance to management.
| Rotary Joints |
A rotary joint is the key component of any rotational radar system. It is an electro-mechanical device that provides the critical interface between the stationary and rotating sections of a radar system; allowing signals to be transmitted back and forth between the antenna and ground components with little or no distortion. |

| Pedestals |
| Kevlin Corporation provides the technical expertise in the design, materials management, fabrication, assembly, integration and testing of antenna pedestals for military and commercial applications. |

| Slip Rings |
More than half of all Kevlin rotary joint designs use integrated or bolt on slip rings. If your rotary joint requires a slip ring package of any type or complexity please fill in the required information on our applications sheet at time of your technical information request or contact one of our applications engineers directly.
In the field of RF rotary couplers and subsystems, Kevlin has the most experienced staff in the world. Many of Kevlin's key technical, manufacturing and management personnel have been with the company for over twenty five years. However, Kevlin also employs many younger engineers and senior managers with strong track records in the electrical, mechanical and quality aspects of microwave and rotating technology. This combination of long-time company employees and talented newcomers provides a spectrum of experience and innovation that is unmatched by any RF rotary joint manufacturer in the industry, domestic or international.

Kevlin has the in-house ability to perform any task involved in the design, manufacture and test of sophisticated RF rotary couplers or other microwave or rotating components. Kevlin has been providing engineering services to both domestic and international customers for many years. Our designs range from rotary joints to pedestal subsystems. Our market has been in both commercial and military sectors, as well as in space. |
| |
Kevlin has the largest dedicated Rotary Coupler assembly area in the world. This department is capable of assembling and testing rotary couplers and components as tall as 20 feet and weighing over 1,000 pounds. It also is capable of testing for torque, pressure/leakage, weight, coolant flow, rotation and other mechanical parameters. A large area is also designated for pedestals. |
| |
Kevlin maintains class 100 clean benches and a controlled access area (class 100,000 clean room) where critical subassemblies and components are assembled and tested. |

| Rotary Joints |
The Rotary Joint is the link between the stationary and movable parts of a Radar or Microwave communication system, e.g. between the transmitter/receiver and the rotating antenna, for azimuth and elevation of antennas, in foldable masts etc.
A Rotary Joint has often several microwave channels on the same concentric axis. Slip-rings and Azimuth position sensors, optical encoders or inductive discs and fluid joints can also be integrated in the assembly, forming a rotating sub-system. |
